Binance Proof of Reserves: How to Verify Your Balance and Read the Limits

Binance Proof of Reserves (PoR) lets you check whether your eligible account balance was included in a dated reserve snapshot and inspect the assets reported for that snapshot. It is useful evidence about a defined set of assets at a defined time, not a live guarantee of withdrawals, solvency, or future safety. Start with Binance’s official PoR report and the Verification area of your own account—not a screenshot, social-media claim, or unexplained reserve percentage.

Key takeaways

  • Read the snapshot date, covered asset, reported balances and method together; one percentage is incomplete.
  • Your Record ID or Merkle Leaf can help verify inclusion of an eligible balance, not every corporate obligation.
  • PoR is point-in-time and has off-chain-liability limits. It is one transparency input, not a safety guarantee.

What does Binance Proof of Reserves cover?

Binance’s report compares stated custody reserves with aggregated eligible user balances for named assets at a specified time. Ask which asset, snapshot and accounts? It does not certify every product continuously. Read each report’s definitions before comparing cycles.

How to read a reserve report without misreading the ratio

Field What to check What not to infer
Audit or snapshot time The exact date and time to which balances refer That the same balance exists continuously afterward
Asset and scope The named coin or token, covered accounts and notes That every product or liability is included
Reported reserve and net balances The values and definitions used in that report That a headline percentage alone settles all risk
Merkle root and verification method Whether your record can be matched to the selected report That inclusion proves an immediate withdrawal will succeed

A reserve ratio compares the reported reserve with the relevant reported balance. It is not a universal solvency measure. Coverage, definitions and timing matter; use the current official report rather than a fixed percentage quoted elsewhere.

How to check your own Binance account inclusion

  1. Open the official Binance Proof of Reserves page directly, and note its report date and covered assets. Do not use a link sent by an unknown contact.
  2. Sign in through the normal Binance website or app if the feature is available in your account and region. Binance’s PoR page points users to Wallet → Verification; an older support article describes Wallet → Overview → Audit. Navigation can change, so follow the labels actually shown in your account.
  3. Select the same verification date as the public report. Record the displayed verification type, Record ID or Merkle Leaf, covered assets and snapshot balances. A later deposit or withdrawal need not match an earlier snapshot.
  4. Use the self-verification option and instructions associated with that report. Compare the output and Merkle root with the corresponding public report, not a different cycle. If you use a downloadable verifier, obtain it only from the official Binance page or its linked repository, and inspect the source and version before running software.
  5. If your balance is absent, the date, asset, account type or inclusion rules may differ. Check the report scope and official help first. Do not share passwords, recovery phrases, 2FA codes or private keys with anyone claiming they can fix your PoR result.

What does a Merkle proof establish—and what does it leave open?

Think of each eligible account record as a leaf. Cryptographic hashes combine leaves into branches and eventually one root. A valid proof can show that a particular record belonged to the dataset represented by that root. Changing that record would change the resulting hashes. The proof alone cannot tell you whether the entire input dataset captured all real obligations, whether the reserve addresses cover every asset, or whether balances changed after the snapshot. Binance’s zk-SNARK description addresses checks within its reported account-balance calculation, but should not be read as a blanket audit of every off-chain obligation.

When a number or verification result looks wrong

Compare the same asset, snapshot time, account scope and verifier version. A later transfer or trade can change your current wallet balance. If the official check still fails, preserve the report date and error output and contact Binance through its official support channel. Never upload sensitive account material to an unverified “audit” site.

PoR does not replace ordinary account controls. Protect your login with a passkey or other supported second factor as covered in our Binance passkey guide and account security checklist. If a withdrawal is delayed, use the separate deposit and withdrawal guide to check network, address, status and account restrictions; a reserve report does not diagnose an individual transaction. Product availability and verification screens may vary by jurisdiction.

Frequently asked questions

Does 100% or more on a PoR report guarantee my funds?

No. Read the asset, snapshot date, denominator and method. The figure describes the report’s defined comparison at that time; it is not a guarantee of future balances, all liabilities or immediate withdrawal access.

Why does my current balance differ from the snapshot?

Later deposits, withdrawals, trades or transfers can change it. Compare the same asset, cycle and account scope.

Is PoR an audit of Binance’s entire company?

No. It addresses a defined asset and balance set, not necessarily every off-chain obligation.
